Fun with Grandpa and Grandma!

Our visit with Grandpa and Grandma Mattie was very special and most memorable. A lot was packed into the ten days they were able to stay in our home.

On March 2nd, we were able to celebrate Grandma’s 71st birthday with her. The children were delighted to partake in her birthday ice cream bar dessert. With five types of ice cream to choose from, everyone was able to scoop up something that brought a smile to their face. Grandma even used the Elliott traditional “You Are Special Today” plate and bowl. It was an added bonus that Hattie was able to join us to celebrate Grandma’s birthday. Hattie spent lots of time talking with Grandma and sharing about all her EXCEL adventures. Fun was had by all and Grandma seemed to enjoy her special day.

The week started off with a bang as Grandpa and Brent headed to Dallas at 5:00 AM on Monday to take Hattie back to EXCEL. They made their way back in time to enjoy a delightful evening with the Morrison’s. Paul, Shari, Janny, Callie and Natalie were all able to come for dinner and to visit. Grandpa & Grandma were abundantly blessed by the time together and were grateful that the Morrison’s could rearrange their schedules at the last minute (and even brave a snow storm!) to join us.

Throughout the rest of the week, Granda found time to fit in multiple trips to Sulpher (there is a lot to do in Sulpher…who would have thought?!); travel the country side with Parker in tow; hit the Cowboy Hall of Fame and OK Museum of Art with Brent, Grandma & the boys; attend a major bull sale in Yukon; check out the Bass Pro Shoppe with Brent, Lillie & the boys; tour the Morrison’s ranch and see the fabulous remodeling job on their house; dine at Braum’s often; bottle feed Maverick, help out with the goat chores and even “rescue” a new baby goat; and spend time being amused by the way our family constantly “makes loudness”. He was one very busy Grandpa!

Grandma’s week went much slower but equally as enjoyable. For the most part, Grandma stayed home. Aside from the one outing to OKC and another to the Morrison’s, Grandma enjoyed spending time working on a rug hooking while talking with her grandchildren and “favorite” daughter (ME! At least I like to remind her that I am her favorite. Smile.). A few years back, Grandma bought Dennah a 27x40 inch dolphin rug hook project to make for the beach house. This is the project that Dennah challenged everyone to complete while Grandma was visiting. It turned out to be a great idea. Not only did we complete the rug hooking, we spent many hours talking with Grandma. It was like the old time quilting bee. Our hands kept busy while we enjoyed each others company. Very memorable.

We are very grateful that Grandpa and Grandma were able to make the trip. Many huge blessings came from the effort they made to be with us…It was delightful to watch them getting to know the triplet’s better. Hearing Grandpa laugh always brings us joy. Grandma’s faith and trust in God’s perfect plan is a testimony for us all. The trip wasn’t easy for Grandma to make. By shear will power and mercy from God, Grandma was able to sustain her energy for the entire trip. Her willingness to give it her all just to be with us is a confirmation of her love for her family. We praise God for both Grandma and Grandpa.
