Jack {Blessing...or Bump depending on who you talk to!}

Jack gave me quite a scare over the last few days.  Not being one who has much experience caring for a snake, I found myself feeling stressed when it became apparent that Jack wasn't doing well.  I really don't want Jack to die but I REALLY don't want him to die on my watch!  I first noticed that his skin was no longer bright and shiny.  I tired to comfort myself with the thought that he was probably going to shed since I found a piece of shed skin in his box.  He was still very wiggly when I picked him up and did eat well on Monday, so I tried not to worry too much.  But when I checked on him this morning, I really began to get concerned!  He was curled up so tight and didn't move when I touched him.  At first, I thought he was dead.  What a blessing that I didn't just put him in the trash because he wasn't and the next person coming along to use the trash can would have gotten quite the shock.  A most amusing thought!  I hoped he was cold and turned up his heat lamp.  Then I prayed and gave him to God.  I was hoping in my heart that God wanted His snake to live but was resolved that God's plan is perfect...even for Jack, no matter the outcome.

After enjoying a wonderful birthday lunch out with my dear friend, Cheryl Burnett, I returned with the hope that Jack was still alive.  Yeah!!  He was.  On the drive home, I was sharing my concerns about Jack with Brent on the phone and asking for advice on what I could do to help our daughter's precious Boa Constrictor.  I am sure that Brent was thinking to himself, "Why in the world do we have a snake in our home and why is my wife so attached to this snake?  And do we really love Lillie enough to worry this much about a snake?" but he was kind enough not to say what he was probably thinking and told me to put the snake outside in the sun and add some water to his box to create a bit more humidity.  With all praise to God, the sunshine did the trick!  Jack perked up and started acting more like his old self.  Dee did some research for me and discovered that Boas need sunlight along with 80 degree weather.  Downstairs just wasn't going to work for Jack.  He needed to be moved.  So, now Jack is living in my bedroom on Brent's dresser where he will have good indirect sunlight all day long.  Can you imagine Brent's joy when he arrived home?!  The things we will do for our children!

Counting it all JOY,
