Nana and Grandpa stopped by for a visit after church. (They are here for two weeks and are staying in their trailer up at the barn.) While talking in the house, we heard an ear piercing scream from one of our boys outside. Surely the kid must have been on death's door step by the way he was carrying on. When I get to him he tells me (while shedding big tears) that another brother has whacked him in the head. Doesn't seem like brotherly love to me but since their dad was home I figured this was a job for him. After futher investigation, it was discovered that the boy got whacked because he felt lead to relieve himself on his brother's shoe. Seriously?!! I have no idea what came over the kid! When the brother getting soaked felt what was happening, he turned around and whacked his brother in the head to get him to stop. Where do you start? We don't allow our children to hit each other. We expect our children to use a toilet unless they are in the woods out of reach of a bathroom and under no circumstance are they ever allowed to go potty on another person. We have a rule about screaming in the yard unless it is an emergency. What did the whacking kid do to prompt the relieving kid to what he did, if anything? After all was sorted through by their dad and discipline was handled, Brent and I did have a big laugh about it with their grandparents. What else could we do? If we don't find humor in the challenges of parenting, we'll most likely go crazy! So, if you see me laughing when my kids are out of control or doing something they shouldn't, don't worry. They will get the discipline, instruction and encouragement they need. I am just choosing to find the joy instead of being overwhelmed.
