Big Game Hunters

Rain is wonderful. But with rain comes the challenges of keeping three active little two-year olds busy! Daddy came up with a wonderful plan thanks to the fun “toy” that Mr. Chatham has allowed us to “play” with. Yes, a hunting blind!

Daddy set the hunting blind up in the living room and the children were delighted! The number of deer, bears and turkeys taken would have made any hunter proud. The children hunted until they could hunt no more. The only thing that could have made the event more thrilling would have been if their hunting buddy, Caleb Chatham, had joined them. Caleb (3) is an accomplished hunter having shot many large animals in his own living room.

The creativity did not stop with the hunting blind in the living room. Some of the drop antlers that have found a way into our home became quick props to add to the fun. Daddy showed Clay how to carry some on his head so he could be the deer. Clay ran around the living room while everyone else took “shots” at him. Clay delighted in falling to the ground after being shot and Parker enjoyed dragging “the deer” around to celebrate the “big buck” moment. Hunting humor…it knows no age limit!

The oldest hunter in our family has taken no end of teasing from his “does not quite get it” wife when it comes to the joy of hunting DVD's. Watching all the accomplished video hunters having their own “big buck” moment is flat out amusing and just begs for mocking by the less supportive. One would think that a DVD for each game animal…turkey, dear, coyote, bear, elk, etc. would be enough. But that is not the case! A series on each is needed. In fact, a series on each animal using either archery, muzzleloader or rifle is what brings the most joy. Brent is not alone in this thinking and is blessed with a couple of great hunting buddies of his own who help to support and encourage his hunting video habit. So if you ever find yourself in need of a coyote calling DVD or bow hunting elk DVD or want someone to “imitate” some of the greater “big buck” moments, please feel free to stop on by. You might even be able enlist some of the younger Elliott hunters to bag you some big game before you leave.

Rainy weather does tend to make us a little stir crazy around here. Praise God for creativity and for friends who share their “toys”.

May your day be blessed and sprinkled with joy & creativity.
