You never know what a day will bring, let alone a week! What an unexpected week we have had. As the week began, we thought we would spend a day going to violin lessons, rejoice in the birth of baby goats, enjoy the fellowship of good friends and a list of other things. Alas, this was not to be in God’s for plans for our family.
Early Tuesday morning was the beginning of a complete change of our week. It began with the death of Dennah’s favorite goat, Josephina. She had died in the early morning hours trying to deliver her babies. Josephina was born here in Oklahoma in 2004. Dennah especially liked Josephina’s sweet personality and cute white ears. The death of Josephina and her unborn babies was heart wrenching to say the least. Dennah was able to “cowgirl up” and prepared to get ready for violin lessons anyway.
Soon after hearing the news about Josephina, we discovered Emma throwing up on the sofa. UGH! This definitely put an end to our heading out the door in just a few minutes for violin lessons. With an about face, we unpacked, undressed and prepared for a day at home. Emma was truly not herself and when not throwing up, she was sleeping. At one point, Mama spent time comforting Emma by rocking her. It was then that Emma “spilled” all over Mama which prompted a quick change of clothing. Into the washer went the goobie skirt, cell phone and all! UGH! So instead of heading to Edmond for violin lessons with all the children, Tamy found herself at home with illness, death and a cell phone that no longer worked. It is very easy to count your blessings when all is going your way but a challenge when things are not.
Fortunately, God meets us where we are and gives us grace when we need it. Dennah was able to find joy in the fact she still has eleven goats and four of them are pregnant. Emma was the only one throwing up…it could have been all seven children in the house. Tamy still has an old cell phone that works, even if it is not a cute flip style red one! God is still the same, today and always. Yes, our blessings are many!
Having illness in our home meant changes for the entire week. The plan was for Terry Covey and her daughters, Sophie and Clara to come Wednesday stay until Sunday morning. We have been friends with the Covey family for 12-½ years. We moved in right down the street from them while living in California back in 1995. Lillie and Dennah cannot remember a time when they weren’t friends with Sophie and Clara. The Covey’s now live in Texas. Visits with them aren’t nearly as often as we would like and always cherished when the opportunity arises. As much as they enjoy our family, walking into a den of illness was not in their plans for the week. We hope to reschedule another opportunity to spend time together in the near future. It is nice to have friends who are understanding and flexible!
Lord willing, the plan is still in place for Tamy to go to Tulsa for a Creative Memories regional conference on Friday and Saturday. Courtney Mount hopes to join her barring no further illness in her home with Terry Covey meeting them there. It should be a time of encouragement, inspiration and sweet (but quick) fellowship. But as we have learned, you just never know…
With all praise to God, we are on the mend. We currently have a house filled with wimpy, whiny, pitiful children but are no longer running fevers or throwing up. We’ll take body aches over stomach aches any day! Thank you to all who have been praying for our family’s health to be restored. Your prayers are being answered.
Yes, you never know what a day, a week or year will bring. We are so grateful that the Lord is in control over all things and His plan is perfect. We will continue to count our many blessings, no matter what a day may bring forth.
