Our July 4th celebration marked the 4th year we have hosted this wonderful event. This summer tradition has become a family favorite that we look forward to with great joy. We have found something that works and all those who attend know what to expect when they join us. We begin with individual family photos as folks arrive (Although sadly, the Fagala's, Pound's and Russell's got away without their photos this year~ugh! Hattie also missed out on being in the family photo since she was at the hospital working a 12 hour shift.). While waiting for the potluck hot dog dinner, we enjoyed fellowship and volleyball. After dinner, a group photo is taken and then the water games begin! This year we had a relay races, distance water ball toss, and a HUGE water fight! All those playing got totally soaked and had a blast. Then dessert was served and more volleyball was played. When the sun had finally set, we gathered for some patriot singing and sharing about how we need to proclaim God boldly throughout our country. The grand finale for the evening was an impressive fireworks show. During the entire evening, I was humbled that so many people traveled such great distances to join. God has blessed us with so many dear friends. We have already started talking about next year's 4th of July event...we are considering starting on the 3rd and opening it up for camping. The thought of it makes me smile.

The folks are drenched!!Part of our 4th of July tradition includes the Chatham's coming down early to help us set up, fill water balloons and get a jump on the fun. Our somewhat new family traditional 4th of July celebration means so much to me that this is the holiday that I will request our children join us for once they move on to homes of their own. When we lived in California, my parents liked to have us for Thanksgiving and Christmas, alternating holidays, on the every other year schedule. In my perfect world, it will be the 4th of July. Of course we'd love them home for all the holidays but if they are only able to travel for one, I'd sure like it to be for the patriotic one. Brent & I will be happy to travel for all of the rest. Just thinking ahead...
