Our family was blessed to ring in the New Year with the Chatham and Fagala families. This was not the original plan. Praise be to God that He is in control because what He had planned was truly a blast and better than we could have imagined!
Our family (minus the working daddy person) headed up on Wednesday, December 29th to begin celebrating with the Chatham's. It has become a tradition (this was the 4th year!) to go up early, let the kids play, the older girls fellowship and the mama's catch up with some fabulous visiting. We stay up way too late, eat lots of fun food, laugh a lot and fit in a few movies. Instead of the older girls exchanging gifts, this year they began a new tradition of taking themselves to lunch and having lots of fun "girl time" talking. On Thursday, the weather was wonderful so all the younger kids played outside skating, pushing and riding the jeep around and making good use the driveway with some new Plasmacars (a gift from the Eschenbach family and now a family favorite toy!).
On Friday, it was decided that it would be very fun to ring in the New Year with Mama Niece and the Fagala family. Since Mama Niece wasn't up for traveling, the Fagala's decided that it would work for them to have all 18 of us come there way to celebrate and spend the night. Talk about good sports! We packed up the vans and headed to Ardmore after the daddy's got off work. We arrived around 6:00 PM. We spent the evening enjoying wonderful fellowship, eating a great dinner and lots of snacks, playing Electronic Monopoly and Phase 10 (the Fagala's take this game very seriously...don't be taken in by Mama Niece's innocent ways...she can really play Phase 10 and will give you a run for your money!), challenging each other at ping pong and foosball (the Fagala's have a great game room!), and toasting in the New Year with sparkling cider. After giving God praise for 2010 and asking His hand of blessing for 2011, some went to bed while others stayed up to play Twister and watch a movie. The evening finally ended around 4:00 AM. We all had so much fun and are thankful for the gift of friends!!
We don't know what God has planned for our family for 2011. We do know that He works all things for good to them that love Him. (Romans 8:28) As we look towards a new year, we give God praise for that He has so graciously given to us...family, friends, health, provision and His Son. We are truly blessed!
