Transitions

Life is full of transitions...some major, some minor and some that sneak up on us so softly that we barely notice. Yesterday, I noticed that my oldest son is truly becoming a man. He is working his way into becoming the person God desires him to be. As Becker's mama, I am overjoyed to see this transition taking place. Yes, he seems to grow taller with each passing day but it is the change in his heart and how he deals with his siblings that has caught me by surprise. In the past, when there has been an emergency or someone has been hurt, he has had a tendency to overreact, panic, not step up to help or just not notice. He has been too busy being Becker and doing boy type things. But not yesterday. When Clay fell when trying to climb into our big oak tree in the back yard, Becker acted like a man. He scooped up his bloody, crying youngest brother and ran him into the house. Becker's only concern was for Clay...not the blood that was dripping all over him or the blood trail he was leaving behind...just for his brother. (With all praise to God, Clay is fine. He just cut up the inside of his mouth and left himself very sore, but he is doing great today. Mouth bleds can be very dramatic for the size of the actual wound. Clay's fall is the sign of another transition...he is no longer a "little" kid and is going to try and do everything his older brother's do.) To add to my joy, when it was time to make dinner, it was Becker who offered to continue rocking Clay and hold the ice on his mouth.

Yes, my growing son is becoming a man. A wonderful transition to behold.
