A Hair Color Fairy Tale

A very long, long time ago in another place and time, a young newly marriage woman had grand ideas of how should would feel about herself and how she would handle the prospect of growing older with gray hair. She was most bold about this in her younger days and often put both feet in her mouth with regards to this subject...annoying to others and now most humbling to reflect upon. Since her prince charming had grandmothers and a mother who looked absolutely beautiful with their long, gray hair all piled delightfully on their most feminine heads, the young woman assumed she would easily follow in their footsteps. Alas, this was not to be the case. When the woman, no longer in the younger category, found herself with gray hair she panicked! She was not feeling very good about herself, still had many young children in her home and surely didn't want to be considered their grandmother, and had already been mistaken as the fair Courtney Mount's mother more than once (ouch!). The woman was granted permission from her what-a-guy husband and ran off to the gray hair removal fairy. The joy of no longer having gray hair filled her heart for four years when her heart became troubled. How long would she continue this process? Would she continue into her nineties as her wonderful grandmother, better known as Mormor, did with her signature red hair? With her new relationship with natural progesterone and estrogen, her hair was growing much faster than it had in the past (a very good thing) and coloring her hair would soon need to increase to every three weeks. This would not do.

The woman's desire to go back to her natural state was only confirmed when she saw the most beautiful Mrs. Paula Compton recently at a bridal shower. Now it wouldn't be right to think that you can look like someone else but let me say for the record that the lovely Mrs. Compton makes going gray look awesome!

Back to my story...the decision to not continue to color her hair was made and research was done. Thinking that the solution would be simple, the woman grab a box of Color Fix and attempted to remove the unwanted color. Although the woman should not have been surprised, she was. The plan did not go as expected. Instead of returning to her natural color, she looks like she is trying to look like Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side (A family favorite movie...just got to love a true story about a white mama and her wonderful adopted black child!). Now the woman has a challenge on her hands...again. If you happen to see a woman who used to have dark hair and the appearance of thinking she knew it all now with odd colored hair and a most humbled expression, just smile. You could also pray for her, she probably needs it.

Thankfully, her prince charming is being very supportive as she tries to get back to her natural state...no matter how she gets there...which means the woman and her prince will live happily ever after. Praise God!
