Yesterday was the first day of bow hunting for the season on our property. Mr. Chatham, Mr. Mount, Brent and Becker all rose early and made their way into tree stands in hopes of finding that first big buck. When Brent received a call from Mr. Mount early in the morning, he was expecting to hear that a deer had been shot. What a surprise to hear that Mr. Mount, who was hunting down by the river, had just spotted a somewhat naked man wandering around our property! Brent & Becker bailed of their tree stand and headed off to assess the situation. After a call to the sheriff to check if there was someone missing from the local prison, they were assured that the police were not looking for someone. What the sheriff's office didn't know at that time was that a man with three felony warrants was being chased by bounty hunters. The man stole a vehicle, crashed in a local field and then fled on our property during the night. After being seen by Mr. Mount, the man broke into a neighbor's home and stole a 308 hunting rifle with a scope, camouflage clothes and provisions. It had been determined that he had head back towards our property. This is when the police and local authorities stepped in and the man hunt was on! Helicopters, officers holding guns, police dogs, police vehicles and lots of excitement was not what our hunters had in mind when they began their day. Police were stationed all around the area and in the local town of Asher. They even had a team come on our property with dogs to try and find the guy. Having the police come to our house was a huge hit with our kids. As one might imagine, this put a hold on the deer hunting for the day. When the man couldn't be found and things finally settled down the hunters decided to give deer hunting another try but in the opposite direction of the river. Even after all the distraction and delays, it was still a successful day hunting. Mr. Chatham was blessed to harvest a doe that will make for some great meals this winter.
I don't think Becker will ever forget his first day bow hunting. As for the naked man, he still has not been located.
